Yuri Zbitnoff is a Boston-based drummer/composer/arranger who has been simultaneously providing cutting edge musical entertainment and fomenting revolution of the mind for over 20 years.
In addition to his role in the dual drummer combustion chamber that propels Axemunkee, Yuri can be heard playing in Atompunk Go-Go Jazz pioneers Mission Creep.
Yuri is perhaps best known for his nearly 10 year stint with the roiling cauldron of apocalyptic cosmic jazz thunder known as Enuma Elish. Yuri can also be heard in his ongoing work with pure improvisation ensemble, Leap of Faith whose releases are available through EVIL CLOWN.
QUESTION: What does Bring Us Your Women mean to you, Yuri?
ANSWER: I'm happy to be part of BUYW because at its core, this show affirms a single, immutable and heroic idea: that all of us seek the divine in ourselves, our loved ones and to inspire it in those around us.
BUYW tells many stories. Some of them are stories of vengeance. Some of them are stories of sorrow. Some are stories of liberation and triumph.
Some of them are stories healing and grace. Some of them are stories of treachery and deceit. Some of them are stories of those who wielded ultimate power and those who lived simply.
But the unifying thread is the indomitable, transcendent spirit of freedom that is the divine feminine that lives in each of us.
It is my sincere hope that at the end of this performance, you are left with the spirit of inspiration, joy and fraternity in which this music was made.
_____
And by the way, the most heroic spirit of them all is a woman named Catherine Capozzi.
She inspired me.
